Hi, I’m Howard Partridge.I am originally from L.A. (Lower Alabama!). I grew up poor. There were 7 kids on welfare crammed into a little 600 square foot house. The roof was so bad that we had to get out all the pots and pans to catch the leaks when it rained.
When I was 18 years old, I got kicked out of the house for being a wild teenager.
I arrived in Houston, Texas on a Greyhound bus with only 25 cents in my pocket. Eventually I became a professional waiter making about $500 a week.
That’s when I started my carpet cleaning company out of the trunk of my car.
That was over 24years ago.
November 2nd 1984 to be exact.
I always wanted my own business, but didn’t have any money.
I went to New Jersey to get married, and a friend of my wife’s family was tooling around in a little red Mercedes convertible.
He was 23 years old – the same age as me at the time. I thought to myself “I want to know what that guy does and I want to know if it’s legal!”
I discovered that he was in the carpet cleaning business.
My wife is Italian and when you marry into an Italian family, instead of getting toasters, blenders or a set of dishes like you do in the South, you get cash!
We got $3,000.00 in wedding money. As soon as we got back to Houston, I spent that money on a carpet cleaning machine and a vacuum.
My wife was really thrilled about that, let me tell you!!!
“From Zero to $30k per month”
Over 13 long years, I got the company up to 3 trucks doing about $30k per month. Not bad except that there wasn’t much money left over at the end of the month and everything revolved around me.
If a van had to be fixed “I” had to be involved in it. If a client had a question “I” had to be involved in it. I had a stack of client inquiries on my desk that I couldn’t get to.
People who wanted to spend money with us, but I couldn’t get to them. When I finally called them, I got their voice mail. When they returned my call, they got my voice mail.
“Ugh! I knew I had to do something fast!”
That was 1997. So I invited two fellow carpet cleaners that I knew through my association to become partners. We built systems in the business and I implemented my marketing system.
The business jumped to over $800k that year alone!
“Over $2.8 Million Per Year at the HIGHEST PRICES!”
Since that time, my carpet cleaning business increased to over $2.8 million per year. My carpet cleaning company is the most respected, high end residential cleaning company in my area. Our company learned how to command the highest prices and the best part is we generate almost all of our new business through referrals.
We charge an average of 62 cents per square foot for carpet cleaning, and we generate between $40k and $60k per month just in referrals. Over $2.8 million and we don’t even have a yellow page ad!
I have 34 of the most positive, most productive employees in the industry. They do what I want them to do when I want them to do it. The best part of all is that I don’t have to be there. We have built turn-key systems for every aspect of the business.

I have literally led hundreds of workshops for practically every institution in our industry including Bridgepoint, Prochem, Jon-Don, SCRT, PCUCA, PCRA, CFI, NEIRC, and ASCR.
I have presented for the WFCA (World Floor Covering Association), and the IICRC UK Convention in London. The IICRC is the world’s most recognized body of certification for carpet and upholstery cleaners, and I was recently contracted as a consultant by Mohawk Floor Care. Mohawk is the largest flooring manufacturer in the world.

I started my carpet cleaning business out of the trunk of my car and built it up to a 14 truck company. I have been a solo operator, and I currently have 34 employees. Whatever you may be going through in your business right now, I have most likely already been there.
